Hosting and Maintenance – Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to transfer my site to Abtek?

It depends on a few factors, but we can help you determine the best course of action to minimize your risk of downtime or loss of data. In most cases, website transfers are completed in less than 3 business days, with less than 2 hours of downtime. We typically schedule hosting switch-overs to happen in the middle of the night so any downtime is not noticed by your website visitors.

Please contact us about your website migration with any questions you might have.

What counts as a 'website change' request?

Requesting an update to your website is easy with AfterCare.  A specified number of website change requests are included in the Optimized and Commerce plans.

A 'website change' request is defined as any modification to existing text or image content on an enrolled website.  For instance, changing the text of a sale banner, replacing an image, updating hours of operation or revising the text on the About Us page.

You can also use a website change request to add content to your site, as long as it can be copied and pasted from a Word document or Google Drive file.  This would include adding new blog entries, updating portfolio items, adding new testimonials or products to your website catalog.  See more details.

IMPORTANT: Your website text and image content will not be edited, so please make sure and check your spelling and formatting before sending us your content.  New content files should be submitted to Abtek as a Word Document (doc/docx) or Google Drive share link.

Does AfterCare replace my email service?

No.  You'll need a robust e-mail solution in addition to AfterCare.

We recommend G-Suite by Google.  Abtek includes the initial setup of your G-Suite account with all AfterCare plans.  We can create your new email inbox and import up to 1 year of emails from your old server.  Your monthly fee of $5/per user/per month will be paid directly to Google.

If you require a Microsoft Exchange server, we can refer you to a great Calgary company.

What country will my website's IP address be located in?

Our AfterCare plans offer IP addresses all over the globe.  You can choose to have your website's IP address located in either California (USA), New York (USA), Toronto (Canada), London (UK), Amsterdam (Netherlands), Frankfurt (Germany) or Singapore.

What is an Emergency SLA and do I need one?

An Emergency SLA (Service Level Agreement) covers reactive emergency service to your website if it experiences problems outside of normal business hours.

If you require round-the-clock website availability or transact a high-volume of business on your website, you might want to arrange for emergency after-hours tech support.  Please contact us for more information.
